RESTCo Objectives

Our primary objective is to work together with remote (off-grid) communities in the Canadian Arctic and Boreal regions to reduce the vulnerability of their energy systems. We feel that coming changes related to the availability and pricing of fossil fuels and the consequences of climate change and other factors will have negative consequences for remote communities that will be devastating and out of proportion with the consequences for most grid-connected communities.

Remote Communities Vulnerability Factors

While there are a number of critical factors in determining the viability of a community, sufficient energy is key. Traditional communities managed on far less energy than is used today, but that defined a very different form of community than is typical today. With careful planning, we can adjust to coming energy realities to maintain that which is important to us.
